ADOPTED SENATE

A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Dr. Donald G. Gallup; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Dr. Donald G. Gallup on January 8, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gallup was born on June 20, 1936, in Youngstown, Ohio, a beloved son of the late Robert Jonathan and Dorothy Daverin Gallup; and

WHEREAS, he earned a bachelor's degree from Clemson College of South Carolina and a medical degree from Emory University, completed an internship at Greenville General Hospital in South Carolina, served his residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, and completed a fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gallup served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Navy for 20 years, serving as a flight surgeon, as chief of staff of the OB/GYN Naval Hospital in Taipei, and Staff Director of Gynecologic Oncology at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Virginia, before retiring from service with the rank of captain; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gallup was united in love and marriage for 14 wonderful years to Dr. Pamela Coman Gallup and was blessed with four remarkable children, Daverin, R. Kelly, R. Jonathan, and Savanna, and five wonderful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Dr. Gallup will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, brother, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Dr. Donald G. Gallup and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. Donald G. Gallup.
