A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Phylecia Wilson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Phylecia Wilson's exceptional philanthropy and altruistic deeds have earned her a 2008 National Volunteer Leadership Award from the American Cancer Society; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Wilson stands as one of only four volunteers in the United States whose outstanding dedication to reducing the burden of cancer has been deemed worthy of this prestigious award; and

WHEREAS, for more than three decades, Ms. Wilson has served the American Cancer Society in fund raising, cancer control, and patient services; and

WHEREAS, founder of the Society's Relay for Life in Gwinnett County, her leadership and commitment has resulted in the Gwinnett County event serving as the Society's largest fund-raising event in the world, collecting over $2.5 million each year; and

WHEREAS, her remarkable achievements with Gwinnett County Relay for Life were recognized with a Relay for Life Hall of Fame Award in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Wilson serves as an advocate and spokesperson with the American Cancer Society Action Network and the Georgia Public Policy Committee; and

WHEREAS, a cancer survivor herself, Ms. Wilson inspires all who meet her with her optimism, courage, and hope, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this body recognize her for her tireless efforts to rid the world of cancer.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Ms. Phylecia Wilson on her esteemed recognition and express gratitude for her years of passion, commitment, and motivation with her work for the American Cancer Society.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Phylecia Wilson.
