ADOPTED
SENATE
A
RESOLUTION
Urging
the Department of Transportation to install sound barriers on I-95 near Blythe
Island; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
I-95 runs through Glynn County and along some of its residential neighborhoods,
including Blythe Island; and
WHEREAS,
traffic along I-95 produces a substantial amount of noise; and
WHEREAS,
I-95 has a particularly strong impact on two sections of Blythe Island where the
noise produced from traffic can be heard throughout the day; and
WHEREAS,
these conditions adversely impact the quality of life and property values of
residents in the Blythe Island area; and
WHEREAS,
the recent widening of I-95 has brought these conditions even closer to
residential areas of Blythe Island; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Department of Transportation has the authority to install sound
barriers along I-95 that can significantly reduce the effect that such noise has
on neighboring residences; and
WHEREAS,
other residential areas of Glynn County have benefitted tremendously from the
installation of sound barriers by the Georgia Department of Transportation;
and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Department of Transportation's application of the guidelines
pertaining to the installation of sound barriers has led to the denial of a
request for the installation of such barriers in and around the Blythe Island
area and has left these residents with little or no hope that the conditions
affecting them will improve.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body support
the installation of sound barriers along two sections of I-95 that run next to
residential areas of Blythe Island.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Georgia Department of Transportation is requested
to reconsider the feasibility of sound barriers for these two sections of
I-95.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the State Transportation
Board, the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the
Glynn County Board of Commissioners.
