A RESOLUTION


Recognizing February 12, 2009, as "Gainesville-Hall County Day"; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, with a current estimated population of 180,000, the Gainesville-Hall County area is considered one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States; and

WHEREAS, located at on the shores of Lake Lanier and at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Gainesville is known far and wide for its beautiful scenery and friendly people and has been celebrated as the "Hospitality Capital of the World" and the "Chicken Capital of the World"; and

WHEREAS, Hall County hosted a number of events during the 1996 Olympics, including rowing, kayaking, and canoeing, that showcased the spectacular waters of Lake Lanier and gave Georgia's international visitors a special taste of Southern Hospitality; and

WHEREAS, the Gainesville-Hall County area is an exciting place for entrepreneurs, sports lovers, students, and nature enthusiasts, and it is the home of Road Atlanta, a world-class racing facility; the Wrigley Manufacturing Company, producers of Wrigley's chewing gum; Kubota Manufacturing of America, a manufacturer of fine tractors; Brenau University; Gainesville State College; Lanier Technical College; and Flowery Branch, home of the Atlanta Falcons' football complex; and

WHEREAS, as new businesses and young families join the Gainesville-Hall County community every day, the Gainesville-Hall County tradition of hospitality continues to thrive and grow.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing February 12, 2009, as "Gainesville-Hall County Day."
