A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Bishop Jim Swilley and commending Church In The Now on the occasion of its 25th
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Bishop Jim Swilley acknowledged his call to the ministry at an early age and,
since then, has proclaimed the gospel in song, ministry, prayer, and authorship
throughout the United States and many foreign countries, with a passion to bring
people into an understanding that they are real people experiencing the real God
in the real world; and
WHEREAS,
organized in 1985 by Bishop Swilley, Church In The Now has grown over the years
to become a cutting edge, multicultural, interdenominational church, allowing
the Word of God to spread throughout the community and the world;
and
WHEREAS,
through streaming video, covenant ministries, and multiple inspirational,
insightful and thought-provoking books that provide a progressive vision for the
future, Church In The Now and Bishop Swilley provide a life-changing message of
restoration, hope, personal accountability, and the "nowness" of God;
and
WHEREAS,
the congregation of this church has compiled an unparalleled record of
constructive, compassionate, and humanitarian service which it demonstrates
daily through open minds, open hearts, and open doors; and
WHEREAS,
Church In The Now provides members with a full time daycare called the KidzZone
Learning Center, a ministry for children ages six through fifth grade called
Kids In The Now, a mobile church on wheels called Street Jam, and numerous other
programs and ministry groups; and
WHEREAS,
this amazing congregation has hosted and underwrote Conyers FallFest for 21
years, has hosted Rockdale and Newton County high schools for their graduation
commencement services since 2006, and has sponsored the local food and clothing
closets, a crisis pregnancy center, and a battered women's shelter;
and
WHEREAS,
Bishop Swilley has a global vision for world peace and Church In The Now has
provided monthly support to ministries in both Uganda and the Philippines
through sponsorship and financially underwritten yearly pastoral conferences in
those countries; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that these enduring examples of God's
message of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for their innumerable
good works rendered on behalf of persons in need.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the rich history of Church In The Now, commend the congregation and Bishop Jim
Swilley on 25 years of dedicated service to the Lord and community, and extend
their warmest best wishes for the church's continued growth and
success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Bishop Jim Swilley.
