A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Al Chapman; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Al Chapman has owned and operated Chapman Funeral Chapel in Brunswick, Georgia, for 40 years and Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys since 1999; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Glynn Academy, Mr. Chapman served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army with the Army Grave Registration Unit in Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Chapman diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and energy to Glynn County as Coroner for 16 years and as a magistrate judge for two years; and

WHEREAS, a community leader, Mr. Chapman is a past member and vice president of the Brunswick Jaycees, a past member and president of the Brunswick Optimist Club, and is a current member of the Glynn County Supper Club, the Wednesday Night Supper Club of Glynn County, and the Racoons of St. Simons; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Chapman has been united in love and marriage to Mary Sloan Chapman for 42 wonderful years, and they have been blessed with three remarkable children, Allyson, Sloan, and Al III, and three delightful grandchildren, Hannah, Logan, and Timothy; and

WHEREAS, a life member of Brunswick Elks Lodge #691, Mr. Chapman has served as Exalted Ruler three times and Grand Exalted Ruler District Deputy of the Southeast for the Grand Lodge; and

WHEREAS, this member of Masonic Lodge #717 held an Al Chapman Mule and Wagon Day for ten years, providing entertainment and fun for families with mules and wagons from far away as Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Chapman operates the Confederate Station, a family friendly venue where visitors can listen to Bluegrass and Gospel music, enjoy local food specials, and have a good time in a wholesome environment; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Al Chapman on his numerous accomplishments and achievements and recognize his efficient, effective, and dedicated service to Glynn County and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Al Chapman.
