A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Honorable Dan Moody on the occasion of his retirement from
the Georgia Senate; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Senator Dan Moody has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to
the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Senator Moody has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and
energy since 2002 as a member of the Georgia State Senate representing the
citizens of District 56; and
WHEREAS,
an electrical engineer by trade, Senator Moody served as a guardian of this
nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army Ordinance Corps,
commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant, and with the United States Army Reserves,
valiantly and courageously defending his fellow Americans and retiring as a
captain; and
WHEREAS,
his leadership has been invaluable as Chairman of the Senate Majority Caucus and
the Senate Appropriations Education Subcommittee, as Vice Chairman of the Senate
Education and Youth Committee, and as secretary of the Senate Insurance and
Labor Committee; and
WHEREAS,
Senator Moody has served as a member of numerous Senate Committees, including
Rules, Reapportionment and Redistricting, Regulated Industries and Utilities,
Assignments, and Administrative Affairs; and
WHEREAS,
in 2004, Senator Moody was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to serve on the
Southern Regional Education Board Legislative Advisory Council, which is
dedicated to the advancement of education throughout a 16 state region;
and
WHEREAS, he has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including the Champion of Georgia Cities Award from the Georgia Municipal Association, Legislator of the Year in 2005 by Governor Perdue, 2006 Legislator of the Year from the Georgia Association of Home and Services for Children, and the Bobby Rowan Advocacy Award from the Atlanta Alliance on Developmental Disabilities; and
WHEREAS, he has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including the Champion of Georgia Cities Award from the Georgia Municipal Association, Legislator of the Year in 2005 by Governor Perdue, 2006 Legislator of the Year from the Georgia Association of Home and Services for Children, and the Bobby Rowan Advocacy Award from the Atlanta Alliance on Developmental Disabilities; and
WHEREAS,
Senator Moody has been united in love and marriage for 39 wonderful years to his
incredibly supportive wife, Stephanie, and they have been blessed with three
children and eight grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
although Senator Moody's presence on the Senate floor will be sorely missed by
his colleagues upon his retirement, his example of integrity and class and the
influence he has had upon the people of Georgia will continue on in his
absence.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
their esteemed colleague, the Honorable Dan Moody, on his selfless, efficient,
and effective service to the State of Georgia and extend to him sincere best
wishes for a happy and healthy retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Honorable Dan Moody.
