A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the Community Achievement Center, Inc., and recognizing June 5, 2010, as
Community Achievement Center Day at the state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
in 2007, the KAPSI Foundation of Decatur, Inc., and the Decatur Alumnae Life
Development Center, Inc., established the Community Achievement Center, Inc., to
assist DeKalb County in serving its more than 600,000 residents;
and
WHEREAS,
the goal of this nonprofit organization is to improve the quality of life of
DeKalb County residents through programs that provide technology skills,
financial literacy, wellness, tutoring, counseling, and support programs;
and
WHEREAS,
incorporated in 2001, the KAPSI Foundation of Decatur is a body of diverse
individuals of the Kappa Alpha Psi Decatur Alumni Chapter committed to having a
positive impact on the community it serves and to award scholarships for high
achieving students; and
WHEREAS,
the Decatur Alumnae Life Development Center was chartered in 1998 for the
purpose of creating and implementing programs that enhance the Decatur community
and to ensure long-term commitment of involvement and service, and
WHEREAS,
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., was founded on the campus of Indiana
University on January 5, 1911, by ten astute God-fearing men to unite college
men of culture, patriotism, and honor in a bond of fraternity and to inspire
service in the public interest; and
WHEREAS,
with more than 150,000 college educated members worldwide, Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, Inc., has more than 700 chapters in the United States, South Africa,
Korea, Bermuda, Germany, Grand Bahamas, Panama, and Japan; and
WHEREAS,
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was founded on January 13, 1913, on the campus
of Howard University by 22 visionary women who desired to provide services and
programs that promote human welfare; and
WHEREAS,
with more than 200,000 college educated members worldwide, Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc., has more than 900 chapters in the United States, England, Japan,
Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Grand Bahamas, and Korea; and
WHEREAS,
through the Community Achievement Center, the KAPSI Foundation of Decatur and
the Decatur Alumnae Life Development Center broaden their community service
efforts and effect change in the lives of the citizens of DeKalb
County.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Community Achievement Center, Inc., for improving the lives of DeKalb County
residents and recognize June 5, 2010, as Community Achievement Center Day at the
state capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Community Achievement
Center, Inc.
