RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Morris Jones; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Elizabeth Morris Jones on April 12, 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
the beloved daughter of the late Robert and Winifred Morris, Mrs. Jones was born
in Savannah, Georgia; raised in Meldrim, Georgia; lived in Pooler, Georgia, for
30 years; and was a resident of Whitemarsh Island in Savannah for the last eight
years; and
WHEREAS,
she and her husband, James Edwin "Edd" Jones, were co-founders of Jones Red
& White Supermarket in Savannah; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Jones never met a stranger, loving her family and living each day with
conviction in her faith and God; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Jones was an active member of Rothwell
Baptist Church in Pooler, where she was director of the vacation Bible school
program, a member of the choir, served as church clerk, and was a member and
teacher of the Dot Bacon Sunday School Class for many years; and
WHEREAS,
she was instrumental in the implementation of the Rothwell Baptist Church
Mission House Program and was active with the Meals on Wheels program;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Jones was united in love and marriage to Edd for 51 wonderful years, and
was blessed with the love and support of her children Catherine and Michael
Royal, Michael and Vanessa Jones, and Rebecca and Richard Schmidt; and ten
remarkable grandchildren, Clay, Matthew, John Taylor, Ashley, Drew, Austin,
Eric, Emily, Christopher, and Thomas; and
WHEREAS,
she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she
demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Jones will long be remembered for her
love of family and friendship, and this loyal wife, mother, sister, grandmother,
aunt, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Morris Jones and express their
deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs.
Elizabeth Morris Jones.
