RESOLUTION
Commending
the Columbus High School Academic Decathlon Team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Columbus High School Academic Decathlon Team from Muscogee County won
Division II first runner-up honors at the 2010 PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon;
and
WHEREAS,
the two-day academic competition was held on February 26 and 27, 2010, at
Berkmar High School in Gwinnett County; and
WHEREAS,
more than 200 high school students from 23 high schools, representing 17
districts, competed in this prestigious academic event; and
WHEREAS,
teams of nine students represented their school and were tested in seven areas:
economics, art, language and literature, mathematics, science, music, and
Written Super Quiz; and
WHEREAS,
Columbus High School's triumphant performance at the decathlon allows them to
represent Georgia in the United States Academic Decathlon Medium School Online
Competition; and
WHEREAS,
the Columbus High School Academic Decathlon Team was ably led by Coach Betsey
Zachry and Coach Jan Carter; and
WHEREAS,
the scholastically superb team members were Gautam Chebrolu, Amanda Donahue,
Jessica Landry, Latasha Neal, Kenny Onukwue, Michael Skillern, and Dylan
Williams; and
WHEREAS,
these smart and gifted students have brought great honor to their school and
community and their incredible performance is worthy of
recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
congratulate the Columbus High School Academic Decathlon Team on winning first
runner-up honors at the 2010 PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Columbus High School
Academic Decathlon Team.
