A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Reverend Alice Elam Dunn; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Reverend Alice Elam Dunn on April 9, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Dunn was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abram Elam, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School, Reverend Dunn attended Paine College, Augusta Technical School, Agape Bible Study of Augusta, Columbia Theological Seminary, and the Augusta Biblical Studies; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Reverend Dunn was called to preach God's Word in 1983 and was ordained a minister in 1986, helping to lead the congregation of Mt. Olive Baptist Church as associate minister; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Dunn was a passionate musician, singing in the United Gospel Singers, serving as organizer and past president of the Gospel Choir at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and leading the Sister Austin's Choir for over 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Dunn was united in love and marriage to Deacon Perry H. Dunn, Sr., for 61 wonderful years and was blessed with six remarkable children Lamar, Perry, Jackie, Ethel, Daphne, and Gertrude; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Reverend Dunn will long be remembered for her love of family and friendship, and this loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Reverend Alice Elam Dunn and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Reverend Alice Elam Dunn.
