A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta on the occasion of its 50th
anniversary and commending the leadership of CEO and President Janice
McKenzie-Crayton, Executive Vice President of Development David Samuel, and Vice
President of Development and Marketing Alicia Smith; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the goal of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBS) is to enrich
children's lives and provide a solid foundation for the next generation to
thrive by providing participants with caring, well-trained mentors and
responsible role models to emulate; and
WHEREAS,
a private, nonprofit organization, BBBS of Metro Atlanta is one of the largest
affiliates of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, serving more than 3,200
children annually; and
WHEREAS,
founded in 1960, BBBS of Metro Atlanta serves 12 counties of metro Atlanta:
Butts, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett,
Henry, Paulding, and Rockdale; and
WHEREAS,
children who participate in the BBBS program enter at the ages between six and
12 and can remain involved until their graduation from high school;
and
WHEREAS,
President and CEO Janice McKenzie-Crayton has served as the organization's
leader since 1992 and has led BBBS of Metro Atlanta through strategic growth,
expanding the reach of BBBS to 12 metro Atlanta counties that serve over 3,200
children; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. McKenzie-Crayton earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Howard
University, and prior to working with BBBS of Metro Atlanta she served as the
vice president for development at Spelman College; and
WHEREAS,
Executive Vice President David Samuel joined BBBS of Metro Atlanta in 2008
following a successful 35-year career in corporate leadership and leads a
program development and service delivery team focused on creating new mentor
relationships and enriching those relationships to achieve targeted youth
outcomes; and
WHEREAS,
Vice President of Development Alicia N. Smith holds a bachelor's degree from
Virginia Commonwealth University, earned a master's degree from George Mason
University, and is responsible for managing the agency's portfolio of donors and
supervising fundraising programs and events; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine
organization be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta on the occasion of its 50th
anniversary, applaud the organization for improving the lives of Georgia's
children, and commend the leadership of CEO and President Janice
McKenzie-Crayton, Executive Vice President of Development David Samuel, and Vice
President of Development and Marketing Alicia Smith.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Metro Atlanta, Janice McKenzie-Crayton, David Samuel, and Alicia Smith.
