RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Sheriff Jerry L. Lancaster on the occasion of his retirement; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on December 31, 2008, Sheriff Jerry L. Lancaster retired from his 28 year post
as sheriff of Pulaski County, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Lancaster is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state
and by local government officials as a person of unquestionable integrity and
dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
born and raised in Hawkinsville, Georgia, Sheriff Lancaster served for nearly
ten years with the Georgia State Patrol before being elected sheriff in 1980;
and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Lancaster stands as the longest serving sheriff in the history of
Pulaski County, elected to office an impressive seven times; and
WHEREAS,
he served as sheriff with valor and compassion for 28 years and stands as a true
champion for the citizens of Georgia, guided by the best interests of the
people; and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Lancaster is united in love and marriage to Nell Gross Lancaster, and
the couple has been blessed with two remarkable children and three delightful
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their
gratitude for the unique and courageous contributions of local law enforcement
officers on behalf of the citizens of this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the care, fortitude, and selfless dedication exhibited by Sheriff Jerry L.
Lancaster in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation for nearly three
decades and extend to him their utmost appreciation for having so purely and
truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sheriff Jerry L.
Lancaster.
