A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. Gary C. Richter; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Gary C. Richter has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for his leadership in the field of medicine, his compassionate treatment of his patients, and his deep concern for the well-being of others; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richter earned a bachelor's degree from Emory University with Phi Beta Kappa honors, received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and served as a chief resident at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Richter diligently cares for patients at Consultative Gastroenterology in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, he has been published in the Practical Gastroenterology journal, Gastroenterology magazine, the American Journal of Roentgenology, the New York State Journal of Medicine, and the Management of the Surgical Patient; and

WHEREAS, in 2009, Dr. Richter was inducted as the Medical Association of Georgia's first black president during its 155th House of Delegates meeting; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richter has a distinguished service history with a number of medical societies, including the Medical Association of Georgia, the Georgia State Medical Association, the National Medical Association, and the Medical Association of Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, he has been an effective advocate for legislation that benefits patients and physicians in Georgia while holding a number of leadership positions with the Medical Association of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richter has tirelessly and enthusiastically devoted himself to the medical community and the fight for patient and physician rights and has taken an active role in promoting patient-centered health care policies at the state and federal levels; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Dr. Gary C. Richter on his incredible career in the medical field and recognize his commitment to serving the people of the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Gary C. Richter.
