A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Georgia Women's Institute's founding member Ms. Linda Muir; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Linda Muir has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the needs of women and families; and

WHEREAS, a founding member of the Georgia Women's Institute, Ms. Muir serves with honor and distinction as the organization's secretary; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Georgia Women's Institute is to bring together women to endorse and support women's leadership and educational programs, develop and disseminate research, secure funds to support core issues for women and families in Georgia, and provide information, training, and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Women's Institute focuses on issues such as health and wellness, violence, education, employment, economic opportunities, discrimination in all its forms, sexual harassment, social issues, and honoring accomplishments of Georgia women; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Muir earned a cum laude bachelor's degree in philosophy from Newcomb College, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Tulane Scholars and Fellows, obtained a master's degree in behavioral science from the University of Houston, and graduated from Emory Law School; and

WHEREAS, a 30 year resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Muir is Of Counsel with the Saylor Law Firm, where she specializes in business law, corporate law, estate planning, and public policy advocacy; and

WHEREAS, her leadership and vision have been instrumental on numerous boards, including the Sole Practitioner/Small Firm Section of the Atlanta Bar Association, the State Bar's Subcommittee on Civics Education, the Cool Girls Advisory Council, the International Alliance for Women, and the Atlanta's Women's Network; and

WHEREAS, she is a co-founder and past president of Quantum Leaps, Inc., a nonprofit organization that serves as a global accelerator of women's entrepreneurship; and

WHEREAS, this supportive wife is the proud mother of two daughters and grandmother of three; and

WHEREAS, her selfless service to the women and families of Georgia serves as a shining example of volunteerism and her leadership and vision inspire her community, colleagues, and peers; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize Ms. Linda Muir for her vision, sacrifice, and foresight in founding the Georgia Women's Institute and commend her years of dedicated service to Georgia's women and families.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Linda Muir.
