A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials' Annual March on the Moore's
Ford Bridge on April 3, 2010; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials are group of dedicated
elected officials who diligently and conscientiously devote their time, talents,
and energy to uplift the lives of others through their public service to the
State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
on April 3, 2010, the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials will
participate in an annual march on the Moore's Ford Bridge in Monroe, Georgia, on
the 42nd anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.;
and
WHEREAS,
this important event will serve as a remembrance of the life and legacy of the
greatest civil rights leaders of this generation; and
WHEREAS,
participants in the annual march on Moore's Ford Bridge will also be
demonstrating their support for the call to arrest and prosecute the
participants in the lynchings that occurred at the bridge on July 25, 1946;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this important event be recognized
appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials' Annual March on the Moore's Ford
Bridge on April 3, 2010, in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
and as a call to prosecute participants in the 1946 lynchings.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to members of the public and
the press.
