A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Jerry B. Dye on the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Jerry B. Dye has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this dedicated public servant has diligently and conscientiously devoted nearly four decades of his time, talents, and energy to improving the lives of his neighbors as attorney for the Development Authority of Richmond County since the organization was established; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, Mr. Dye was a Distinguished Military Graduate from North Georgia College, earned a law degree from Mercer University Law School, and was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1961; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty in the United States Army for two years as a first lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Gordon; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dye began his legal career in 1964 with the Augusta law firm of Governor Carl E. Sanders and has been a solo practitioner since 1978; and

WHEREAS, he has been united in love and marriage for 50 wonderful years to his wife, Jane, and has been blessed with three remarkable children, Lynn, Laura, and Jerry, Jr.; and six wonderful grandchildren, Taylor, Rebecca, William, Anne, Marcus, and Mary; and

WHEREAS, his service for the last 38 years as attorney for the Development Authority of Augusta has provided Augusta-Richmond County with legal advice and support for the issuance of over $1 billion of investment; and
WHEREAS, he is a long-time member of the Augusta Bar and the American Bar Association, serves on the board of directors of the Wheeler Road Executive Center, and was a founding and governing board member of Westlake Country Club; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dye was instrumental in the development of Westlake Subdivision and other subdivisions throughout Columbia County; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Jerry B. Dye for his nearly four decades of outstanding, efficient, and effective service to Richmond County, congratulate him on his retirement, and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Jerry B. Dye.
