A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Senator George Hooks on his 32 years of outstanding service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, he earned a bachelor's degree from Auburn University and an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree from Mercer University; and

WHEREAS, Senator George Hooks has diligently and conscientiously represented the people of the 14th District in the Georgia State Senate with honor and distinction since 1990; and

WHEREAS, he has served on numerous committees, including the Senate Economic Development, Tourism, and Cultural Affairs Committee, the Rules Committee, the Natural Resources and Environment Committees, the ONE Georgia Authority Oversight Committee, and the Appropriations Committee; and

WHEREAS, he has been recognized for his leadership by several civic organizations, including the National Boy Scouts Council, the Child Advocacy Coalition, the Georgia Association of Educators, the Georgia Council for the Hearing Impaired, and the Georgia Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf; and

WHEREAS, Senator Hooks has received numerous honors, including Outstanding Young Man of America in 1979, the Speak Up For a Child Award in 1997 and 1998, the National Legislator of the Year in 1999, the Legislative Service Award in 1991 and 2006, and the Outstanding Elected Official Grand Award in 2008; and

WHEREAS, he previously served five terms in the House of Representatives where he was an assistant administration floor leader for former Governor Joe Frank Harris and was responsible for sponsoring and working for passage of the Governor's legislative proposals; and
WHEREAS, Senator Hooks is a member of the Rotary Club, the Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commere, and the Eagle Scout Board of Review; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Senator Hooks is an active member of First Baptist Church of Americus; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to the former Kay Felder Allen and is the proud father of two remarkable children, Bardin and Mary Ann; and

WHEREAS, Senator Hooks has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia State Senate and his vision and unyielding commitment have set the standard for public service; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Senator George Hooks for his selfless, efficient, and effective service to the citizens of his community and the State of Georgia and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Senator George Hooks.
