RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Rajaan Jhakari Bennett; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most promising young citizens
with the tragic and untimely passing of Rajaan Jhakari Bennett on February 18,
2010; and
WHEREAS,
Rajaan convinced his peers and community that there was no limit to one's
strength and anything can be achieved with faith, determination, hard work, and
perseverance; and
WHEREAS,
a senior at McEachern High School in Cobb County, Georgia, Rajaan was a star
football player and was named the Class AAAAA Offensive Player of the Year for
Georgia by the Associated Press in December, 2009; and
WHEREAS,
Rajaan had signed a letter of intent to play football at Vanderbilt University
just weeks before his life was tragically taken by the hands of another;
and
WHEREAS,
a standout running back, Rajaan had recently been selected for the Atlanta
Touchdown Club's All State team; and
WHEREAS,
he was the strong and supportive son of Narjaketha Bennett, who said that Rajaan
quickly grew to become the man of the house after his father passed away in a
car accident; and
WHEREAS,
one of this state's finest athletes with the potential to achieve great things,
Rajaan's passing has left his family, friends, school, community, and this state
saddened and stunned; and
WHEREAS,
Rajaan was a compassionate and caring older brother to his two younger siblings;
and
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to his friends and peers through his dynamic yet humble personality and his deep devotion to his family; and

WHEREAS,
by the example Rajaan made of his life, he made this world a better place in
which to live, and though his life was cut tragically short, Rajaan's memory and
example will live on through the many lives he touched; and
WHEREAS,
Rajaan will long be remembered for his love of football, family, and friendship,
and this loyal son, brother, teammate, and friend will be missed by all who had
the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Rajaan Jhakari Bennett and express their deepest
and most sincere regret at his untimely passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Rajaan
Jhakari Bennett.
