A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. William "Bill" Edwards; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. William "Bill" Edwards has long been recognized by the citizens of this
state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Edwards has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and
energy to the citizens of Fulton County since 2000 as vice chair of District 7
of the Fulton County Commission; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure with the commission, Mr. Edwards has honorably represented the
residents of unincorporated South Fulton and Southwest Fulton, College Park,
East Point, Fairburn, Hapeville, Union City, Palmetto, Chattahoochee Hills, and
part of Southwest Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
this distinguished graduate of Morehouse College and Atlanta School of Law has
served as vice chair in 2003, 2008, and 2009 and was reelected to serve in 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
committed to the best interests of the community, Mr. Edwards sponsors quarterly
Community Listening Sessions which provide residents with the opportunity to
speak with him publicly regarding their concerns; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure, Mr. Edwards has brought over $3 billion into South Fulton
County and watched his vision for South Fulton's business and residential growth
become a reality with the opening of several new business ventures, greatly
improved the lives of Fulton County's seniors with the construction of several
senior centers, and expanded access to the arts through recent art initiatives;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Edwards has been recognized with numerous honor and accolades, including the
Commissioner of the Year Award from the Georgia Minority Business Association in
2009; and
WHEREAS,
a 30 year resident of South Fulton County, Mr. Edwards is the proud father of
two remarkable children, William, Jr., and Erika, and the grandfather of four,
Sierra, William III, Morgan, and McKenzie; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. William "Bill" Edwards for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and
dedicated public service to Fulton County.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. William "Bill"
Edwards.
