RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Theron Travis Nichols; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Theron Travis Nichols on March 5, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nichols was born and raised in Bulloch County, Georgia, and was a dedicated
public servant, serving three terms as mayor of Pooler; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Navy, valiantly and courageously protecting democracy and his fellow
Americans as a boiler tender aboard the battleship
USS North
Carolina during World War II;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nichols worked diligently and conscientiously as a production supervisor at
Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals before his retirement in 1984; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Nichols was an active member of Trinity
United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nichols was united in love and marriage for nearly six decades to the late
Eunice Inez Nichols and was blessed with two remarkable children, Ronald and
Tom; and
WHEREAS,
he leaves behind many who will cherish his memory, including his sons, his six
wonderful grandchildren, and a number of delightful great-grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Nichols will long be remembered for his
love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, grandfather, uncle, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mr. Theron Travis Nichols and express their
deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Theron
Travis Nichols.
