A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mrs. Elizabeth "Sug" McCarty Powell Burson Wilson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Elizabeth "Sug" McCarty Powell Burson Wilson was born on August 27, 1915, the beloved daughter of Florence Leonore Powell and Ernest Napier Burson, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson graduated in 1932 as an honor graduate and was active in her school's basketball and debate teams and gave recitals in piano and expression; and

WHEREAS, she earned a bachelor's degree from Agnes Scott College, where she played basketball, field hockey, and soccer and participated in swimming, a master's degree in special education from Georgia State University, and an education specialist degree from Georgia Southern; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilson was united in love and marriage to John McKamie Wilson, Sr., on January 29, 1942, and they were blessed with four remarkable children Mac, Jr., Betsy, Cathy, and Glen; and

WHEREAS, the devotion, patience, and understanding she has demonstrated have provided the foundation and framework of success in which her family members have developed and flourished; and

WHEREAS, at a time when few women worked outside of the home, Mrs. Wilson had two careers, one with the Red Cross as a social worker and one as a high school vocational education/special education teacher at Decatur High School; and

WHEREAS, currently a resident of Marsh's Edge on St. Simons Island, Mrs. Wilson has given inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and she possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she has made of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mrs. Elizabeth "Sug" McCarty Powell Burson Wilson for her selfless, efficient, effective, and compassionate service to her family, community, and this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Elizabeth "Sug" McCarty Powell Burson Wilson.
