RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Joan Miller Sutherland; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Joan Miller Sutherland on February 12, 2012;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Sutherland was born in Atlanta, a beloved daughter of the late Norris Poole
Miller and Sarah Elizabeth Penn Miller; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Sutherland was an active member of the
First Christian Church of Stockbridge; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Sutherland was united in love and marriage to her husband Gene for 57
wonderful years, and was blessed with the love and support of her remarkable
children, Andrew Norris Sutherland; Bonnie Sutherland Wilson and husband
Frankie; Connie Sutherland Hopkins and husband Kenny; Diana Sutherland Earwood
and husband Baker; and Gene Sutherland, Jr., and wife Delee; and
WHEREAS,
she was the proud grandmother to Matthew Wilson and wife Jamie; Andrew Wilson
and wife Meredith; Chad, Cole, and Callie Crowe; Corey Earwood; Lexi, Jes, and
Cade Sutherland, and great-grandmother to Logan and Dylan Wilson and Britton
Wilson; and
WHEREAS,
she exemplified dedication and perseverance through her sacrifice and hard work
at Sutherland's Foodservice and was instrumental in the growth and success of
Sutherland's over the last 50 years; and
WHEREAS,
her work at Sutherland's had a major impact on the agriculture industry in
Georgia and more specifically the State Farmers Market; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Sutherland will long be remembered for
her love of family and friendship, and this loyal wife, mother, grandmother,
sister, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Joan Miller Sutherland and express their
deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Joan
Miller Sutherland.
