RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. W. Ken Harmon; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. W. Ken Harmon has long been recognized for the vital role that he has played
in higher education and his deep personal commitment to students;
and
WHEREAS,
he holds bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in accounting from the
University of Tennessee; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Harmon served on the accounting faculty at the University of Missouri and
Drexel University, chair of the accounting departments at the University of
North Carolina at Wilmington, Middle Tennessee State University, and Arizona
State University West, dean of the Else School of Management at Millsaps
College, director of the School of Accountancy at Kennesaw State University,
dean of KSU's Coles College of Business, and is currently provost and vice
president for academic affairs at KSU; and
WHEREAS,
as dean of Coles College of Business, Dr. Harmon worked to collaborate more
closely with Atlanta area companies and raise the profile of the Coles College
of Business, regarded as one of the top business schools in the Southeast;
and
WHEREAS,
under Dr. Harmon's leadership, the Coles College of Business had its
accreditation renewed by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business International and launched a partnership with Mumbai Business School to
develop its executive M.B.A. program; and
WHEREAS,
the executive M.B.A. program was ranked among the best in the United States by
CEO
Magazine and its part-time M.B.A. was
recognized by
BusinessWeek Magazine
as one of the best; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Harmon has been a journal editor, authored numerous publications, and served
on ten editorial boards; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished gentleman be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Dr. W. Ken Harmon for his sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and
contributions on behalf of education and for the positive influence he has had
upon the lives and futures of countless young people.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. W. Ken Harmon.
