A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mother Dorethea Daye Evans on the occasion of her 77th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mother Dorethea Daye Evans was born on January 8, 1935, and is the eldest and only daughter of sharecropper J.D. Stanley and Lerona Stanley of Treutlen County, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, at an early age, she moved to Atlanta and after receiving her nursing certificate from Beaumont School of Nursing on September 21, 1954, worked as a nurse for many years; and

WHEREAS, she was united in love and marriage on July 19, 1955, to the late Bishop Dr. Robert Lee Evans for 53 years until his passing in 2008, and through this union they were blessed with six remarkable children, 13 wonderful grandchildren, and nine adored great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mother Evans stood by her husband while he served as pastor for 26 years for churches in Jefferson, Washington, Greene, and Fulton counties; and

WHEREAS, Mother Evans is a devout Christian who believes in taking care of the needy, sharing and living her life by loving her God with all her heart, soul, and mind, and loving others as herself; and

WHEREAS, she is a senior member of the Mother Board at First Christian Community Church in Northwest Atlanta, where she puts her faith into action by providing food, clothing, and toys to the Atlanta homeless shelters for men, women, and children and manages the church's food distribution services; and

WHEREAS, she knows no strangers and devotes her life to the care and love of others with a philosophy that love must be shown in the service to others and not just spoken, and she is a person of great faith and tremendous strengths; and

WHEREAS, Mother Evans is an active member of the Thomasville Heights Civil League and the Helene Mills Senior Center that works to address issues facing the senior citizens in the community; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the public service of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized during this special time in her life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mother Dorethea Daye Evans for her effective, efficient, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of the State of Georgia, congratulate her on the occasion of her 77th birthday, and extend sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mother Dorethea Daye Evans.
