A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Milledgeville Mayor's 2010 Commission on Youth Leadership; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Milledgeville Mayor's 2010 Commission on Youth Leadership provides an invaluable learning experience for the future leaders of Baldwin County and brings together youth leaders representing several Milledgeville afterschool programs, including the High Achievers, YES, Vaughn Chapel Crack Prevention, 100 Black Men, and the Boys and Girls Club; and

WHEREAS, since the program's start in the fall of 2008, the main goals have been to help youth develop civic knowledge of their county and community; learn and apply the civic skills of organizing, communicating, and working with others; and instill the value of civic efficacy so that they may be agents of change among their peers and throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, participants include Shekyra Hightower, Raven Hill, Arshay Jones, Trevin Lee, Marcus Morris, Tatiana Pounds, Brianne Saulsbury, Leanne Saulsbury, Marion Shinholster, and Kierra Spikes; and

WHEREAS, those selected for the Milledgeville Mayor's 2010 Commission for Youth Leadership are given an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of how their county and state operates through a range of activities highlighting a variety of components of local and state government and institutions; and

WHEREAS, the futures of all Georgia communities depend on individuals such as the Milledgeville Mayor's 2010 Commission for Youth Leadership participants, who are willing to dedicate their time and talent to civic affairs.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Milledgeville Mayor's 2010 Commission for Youth Leadership on their commitment to the future of their community and congratulate them for being selected for this outstanding program.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Cordell Walker, Coordinator for the Milledgeville Mayor's 2010 Commission for Youth Leadership.
