A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Edward Cooper Gunby; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Edward Cooper Gunby was born in Thomson, Georgia, on April 13th and attended Thomson High School, where he was an All-State linebacker and fullback on the football team; and

WHEREAS, while at Thomson High School, Mr. Gunby was elected team captain and Most Valuable Player on the Region Championship football team in 1971 and was selected to play in the 1972 Georgia High School All-Star football game held in Macon, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, upon graduation, Mr. Gunby attended the University of Georgia, where he played football for the Bulldogs as a defensive lineman in 1972, 1973, and 1974, playing in the opening season football game against the Baylor University Bears as a freshman; and

WHEREAS, he was the very first freshman to play in a University of Georgia football game the first year they changed the freshman eligibility rule in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gunby's brother, Jeffrey Hugh Gunby, was an All-State defensive end at
Thomson High School in 1970, captain of the football team in 1970, and defensive end at
Florida State University in 1971 and 1972; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gunby and his wife, Rachel Fleming Gunby, are accomplished singers and actors and are very active in the Electric City Playhouse in Anderson, South Carolina, where they live on Lake Hartwell; and

WHEREAS, an exciting humorist, Mr. Gunby has performed in several musical and theatrical productions, including as the voice of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors, General Bulimoose in Li'l Abner, Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly, and Daddy Warbucks at nine venues and in over 70 productions of Annie.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Edward Cooper Gunby on his many accomplishments and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Edward Cooper Gunby.
