A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the City of Conyers; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the City of Conyers was established in 1845 by Covington banker Dr. W.D. Conyers; and

WHEREAS, Conyers is the county seat and only city in Rockdale County, the second smallest county in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the City of Conyers owns and operates the Georgia International Horse Park, a venue that hosted the equestrian events, first-ever Olympic mountain biking events, and two events of the modern pentathlon for the 1996 Olympic Games; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia International Horse Park's in-house events and festivals are award-winning and recognized by the Southeast Festivals and Events Association; and

WHEREAS, the City of Conyers has been the recipient of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 21 consecutive years and the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Finance Reporting (CAFR) for 18 consecutive years, designated as a Tree City USA by the State Forestry Commission for 19 consecutive years, and recognized as a Georgia Municipal Association City of Excellence; and

WHEREAS, the Conyers Police Department is a state certified agency by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police; and

WHEREAS, Conyers is a Main Street City and boasts an active historic downtown emphasizing preservation, community events, and economic development; and

WHEREAS, the City of Conyers continues to look with optimism toward the future while keeping the proud memory of its beginning close to its heart to share with succeeding generations.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the City of Conyers and commend its many contributions to the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the public and the press.
