RESOLUTION
Commending
the Junior Leagues of Georgia and recognizing March 16, 2010, as Junior Leagues
of Georgia day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Junior Leagues of Georgia are organizations of women committed to promoting
volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities
through the effective action of trained leaders and volunteers; and
WHEREAS,
the Junior Leagues of Georgia are 12 organizations dedicated to uplifting the
lives of others and include the Junior Leagues of Albany, Athens, Atlanta,
Augusta, Cobb-Marietta, Columbus, DeKalb, Douglas County, Gainesville-Hall
County, Gwinnett-North Fulton, Macon, and Savannah; and
WHEREAS,
these diligent organizations represent over 10,000 women across this state who
volunteer over 250,000 hours annually, contributing more than $5 million in work
to over 300 Georgia communities; and
WHEREAS,
members of the Junior Leagues of Georgia are committed to ensuring early
childhood education opportunities for Georgia’s children so they may
succeed in school and life; and
WHEREAS,
the Junior Leagues of Georgia have partnered with Bright from the Start to
celebrate the millionth child being enrolled in the Georgia Pre-K Program,
committing to read a million minutes to children across this state to encourage
and promote literacy; and
WHEREAS,
this exemplary civic organization and all of its outstanding members have given
generously of their time and assets, thereby accomplishing great missions,
contributing tremendously to the quality of life in their community, and
bringing honor and credit to the State of
Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Junior Leagues of Georgia for its many accomplishments and contributions to this state and recognize March 16, 2010, as Junior Leagues of Georgia day at the state capitol.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Junior Leagues of
Georgia.
