A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending HBCU Bus Tours.com; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have a history and
tradition of educating students of color for over 100 years; and
WHEREAS,
there are currently 105 HBCU institutions operating across the United States,
graduating over 70 percent of this nation's African Americans who earn
bachelor's degrees; and
WHEREAS,
HBCU Bus Tours.com was created to give inner city black youth an opportunity to
travel to HBCU schools to meet students, professors, and alumni and tour the
school's campus; and
WHEREAS,
Atlanta HBCU Bus Tour Month 2010 was created to welcome high school students
from around the country to Atlanta, Georgia, during a 30 day period from March 5
to April 8, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
Atlanta is home to some of the best academic HBCUs in the country, with Spelman
and Morehouse Colleges consistently ranked in the top ten academically of all
HBCU institutions; and
WHEREAS,
the Clark Atlanta University graduate school of business consistently receives
high marks for the quality of its longstanding program, and Morris Brown College
has been a pillar in the world of higher education in Atlanta for many years,
with a list of distinguished graduates working in all aspects of life and living
throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta University Center serves as the home for the Interdenominational
Theology Center, an institution that has produced some of the most outstanding
pastors, teachers, and theologians in the ministry today and offers a diverse
assortment of programs to train the best and brightest who are called to preach
the gospel; and
WHEREAS,
the goal of Atlanta HBCU Bus Tour Month 2010 is to show prospective students of
HBCUs what this state offers in terms of restaurants, attractions, hotels, and
other entertainment in the hopes that these young people will return to Atlanta
for their college careers, graduate in four years, and stay in Georgia to become
a part of this state's ever growing diverse, educated, and highly technological
workforce.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
HBCU Bus Tours.com for exposing prospective college students to the Historically
Black Colleges and Universities of this nation and recognize the Atlanta HBCU
Bus Tour Month 2010 as a unique and important method of attracting college
students to the State of Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to HBCU Bus Tours.com.
