A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Chandler Fisk; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Chandler Fisk of Marietta, Georgia, has earned national recognition by being honored with the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, established in 1995 by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to service in their community; and

WHEREAS, a senior at Pebblebrook High School, Chandler founded a nonprofit initiative that challenges academic and political leaders to promote more physical activity and better nutrition in public schools and encourages students to adopt healthy lifestyles; and

WHEREAS, after researching childhood obesity, Chandler made a presentation to her district's school board, wrote letters to all 181 school superintendents in Georgia, organized a student fitness club at her school, testified before a congressional subcommittee about school nutrition and physical activity, and delivered speeches to local, state, and national audiences; and

WHEREAS, the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of communities, and the vitality of this nation depend heavily upon the service of young people and their willingness to devote their time, energy, and talent to others; and

WHEREAS, Chandler represents the true spirit of service, peer leadership, and responsibility, and the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation to the future of this bright and promising young student.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Chandler Fisk's incredible community service to this state and extend congratulations for being recognized with the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chandler Fisk.
