A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Naomi Shearouse Alderman; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Naomi Shearouse Alderman on May 23, 2009;
and
WHEREAS,
a resident of Effingham County, Mrs. Alderman devoted 39 years to challenging
the future leaders of this state and instilling them with discipline and
self-confidence as an educator; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Alderman diligently and conscientiously dedicated her time, talents, and
energy to her community through numerous civic and philanthropic organizations,
including the Effingham Hussars Chapter of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy, the Georgia Salzburger Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and
Historic Effingham Society; and
WHEREAS,
she dedicated 28 years to Meals on Wheels as a driver, served five terms in the
Silver Haired Legislature from 1982 to 1992, and volunteered an incredible 7,000
hours in service to the Effingham Hospital Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Alderman was united in love and marriage for 61 wonderful years to her
husband, the late Alonzo "Lonnie" Alderman, and was blessed with the love of her
son and daughter-in-law, former Mayor Barton and Joyce Alderman; and daughter
and son-in-law, Penelope and John Scarpucci; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Alderman was an active member of Holy
Trinity Lutheran Church, where she delighted the congregation for many years
with her beautiful music as an organist; and
WHEREAS,
she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she
demonstrated to her family and friends was admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Alderman will long be remembered for
her love of family and friendship, and this loyal mother, aunt, teacher, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Naomi Shearouse Alderman and express their
deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mrs. Naomi
Shearouse Alderman.
