RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., on the occasion of its 70th
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., was founded in 1942 under the guiding vision and
foresight of 11 remarkable women that attended Lewis Business College in
Michigan, Ivy Burt Banks, Dorothy Sylvers Brown, Earline Carter, Mae Edwards
Curry, Katherine Rivers Douglas, Merry Green Hubbard, Ethel Madison, Ann Porter,
Mattie Rankin, Lena Reed, and Atheline Shelton Graham; and
WHEREAS,
Eta Phi Beta will host its 30th Biennial Grand Boulé in Atlanta from
August 6-12, 2012, as it celebrates its 70th anniversary; and
WHEREAS,
since 1942 the women of Eta Phi Beta have offered their best to their respective
local communities throughout the United States and the Virgin Islands;
and
WHEREAS,
the sorority prides itself on its work on behalf of individuals with
developmental disabilities, spearheading efforts in educational programs, and
providing community service to these special and exceptional citizens;
and
WHEREAS,
Eta Phi Beta also prides itself on being a unique organization that is family
oriented and maintains auxiliaries which include the husbands and children of
members; and
WHEREAS,
over the decades, the sorority has continued its vision to promote high
scholastic standards, personal growth, career awareness, and opportunities to
provide community service; and
WHEREAS,
the goal of Eta Phi Beta is to continue providing services to others which are
consistent with their motto, "Not For Ourselves, But For Others";
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
fine organization and its numerous contributions to others be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the rich history and tradition of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and commend it on
the occasion of its 70 years of service to others.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Eta Phi Beta Sorority,
Inc.
