A RESOLUTION


Commending Mrs. Gwen Desselle, the 2010 Georgia Teacher of the Year; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, a proper quality education for the young people of this state is the single most important objective of the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her dedication to challenging the future leaders of this state, Mrs. Gwen Desselle has been named the 2010 Georgia Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Desselle earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Valdosta State University and began her teaching career at Valdosta High School, where she taught for four years; and

WHEREAS, this highly respected social studies teacher at Colquitt County High School has served with honor and distinction as a professional educator since 1977 and is representative of the standard of excellence that is apparent throughout the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, an educator for 32 years, Mrs. Desselle has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including being named the 2010 Colquitt County High School Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Desselle is appreciated for her ability to capture and hold her students' attention by telling stories of her many world travels; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the education and welfare of young people in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary accomplishments and academic achievements of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend heartily Mrs. Gwen Desselle, the 2010 Georgia Teacher of the Year, and express to her their sincerest best wishes for continued success in the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Gwen Desselle.
