A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Carrollton High School for being named an Advanced Placement
Honor School; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Carrollton High School has been named an Advanced Placement Honor School by the
Georgia Board of Education for the second consecutive year, winning both times
for its AP science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) program;
and
WHEREAS,
Carrollton High School won awards for both years for AP STEM School and AP STEM
Achievement School; and
WHEREAS,
the STEM School award is based on student testing in two AP math and two AP
science courses, while the STEM Achievement School award means that at least 40
percent of the AP math and science exams earned a score of a 3.0 or higher,
based on a scale of 5.0; and
WHEREAS,
AP classes offer rigorous college-level learning opportunities for high school
students who gain the ability to receive college credits through exams
administered by the College Board; and
WHEREAS,
the program at Carrollton High School was started by Jason Mundorf, who has
since been promoted to Carrollton Middle School principal; and
WHEREAS,
the STEM teachers include Kasey Austin, William Melton, and Kristi
Bradford-Hunt; and
WHEREAS,
the STEM program has partnered with Southwire Company and the Southwire
Engineering Academy, which has expanded the program and given students the
opportunity for Southwire internships; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia takes great pride in the diligent study and preparation
taken by the students of Carrollton High School and looks forward in
anticipation to the great achievements this school will accomplish in the
future.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Carrollton High School on being named an Advanced Placement Honor School and
recognize the excellent contributions of the students and staff in making their
school superior.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Carrollton High School.
