A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Comcast for its Leaders and Achievers and Internet Essentials
Programs; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Comcast Foundation was founded by Comcast Corporation in June of 1999 to
provide charitable support to the communities where its customers and employees
live, work, and raise families; and
WHEREAS,
the Comcast Foundation is committed to powering the dreams of young people by
building tomorrow's leaders and addressing the need for continued broadband
adoption in underserved communities; and
WHEREAS,
each year Comcast and the Comcast Foundation ask high school principals and
guidance counselors to collaborate in identifying the best and brightest high
school seniors in their communities; and
WHEREAS,
Comcast and the Comcast Foundation want to motivate young people to achieve
their potential, to be involved in their schools, and to be catalysts for
positive change in their communities; and
WHEREAS,
the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program recognizes students who
exemplify these ideals and who serve as role models for their fellow students
and recognizes the scholarship winners by providing them each with a $1,000
grant to attend any accredited, nonprofit college, university, or
vocational/technical school in the United States; and
WHEREAS,
Comcast and its Foundation are equally committed to expanding digital literacy
by bridging the digital divide; and
WHEREAS,
Comcast and the Comcast Foundation recognize that as America evolves into a
truly digital nation, all citizens of all backgrounds can use broadband to
achieve their full potential, and helping more people to learn the benefits of
digital literacy will make the community and this nation stronger;
and
WHEREAS,
through the Internet Essentials program, Comcast brings the power of the
Internet to more students and families in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia is a champion of supporting the dreams of its youth and
addressing the digital divide, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the
efforts of Comcast and the Comcast Foundation be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Comcast and the Comcast Foundation for their efforts to further the dreams of
young leaders and recognize them for addressing digital literacy.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to representatives of
Comcast.
