Senate Education and Youth Committee offered the following substitute to SB
420:

BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Article 1 of Chapter 1 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to general provisions relative to education, so as to
provide that for purposes of determining perfect attendance awards, absences due
to illness or injury caused by conditions which create a state-wide recognized
state of emergency or epidemic shall not be counted as absences; to provide an
effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Article
1 of Chapter 1 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to general provisions relative to education, is amended by adding a new Code
section to read as follows:
"20-1-10.
For
purposes of determining perfect attendance awards, absences due to illness or
injury, as verified by a physician, caused by conditions which create a
state-wide recognized state of emergency or epidemic shall not be counted as
absences. The provisions of this Code section shall apply to awards given for
the 2009-2010 school year and all future school
years."
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its
becoming law without such approval.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
