RESOLUTION
Congratulating
the Columbus Stars youth basketball team on winning the Youth Basketball
Association of America Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
for the first time, the Columbus Stars youth basketball team earned the top
ranking in the nation at the Youth Basketball Association of America
Championship; and
WHEREAS,
through perseverance, determination, and dedication, the team earned a
reputation for excellence during the tournament held in July of 2008 in
Winterhaven, Florida; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team; and
WHEREAS,
the team's superb offensive and defensive talents and incredible sportsmanship
have earned them the respect and admiration of their opponents and community;
and
WHEREAS,
the stellar season and tournament performance can be attributed to the astute
direction of Head Coach Da'Mon Davies, Assistant Coach Carlton Jones, and Team
Manager Shalonda Williams; and
WHEREAS,
the stellar athletes on this championship team include Delvon Bryant, Fred
Davies, Clayton Jones, Jahlil Keys, Devonta Lindsey, Jaylen Marshall, Domenic
Norton, Devin Pugh, and Marterrious Rogers; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition,
it is abundantly proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate the Columbus Stars youth basketball team for winning the
Youth Basketball Association of America Championship and extend their sincere
best wishes for future success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the coaches
and players of the Columbus Stars youth basketball team.
