RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Matthew Harris Gambill; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Matthew Harris Gambill has served the citizens of the great State of Georgia
as a leader in government and civic organizations; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Gambill serves as executive director for the Georgia Association for Career
& Technical Education and as a member of the Georgia Society of Association
Executives, the Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia Chamber
of Commerce and its Governmental Affairs Council; and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Leadership Bartow and Leadership Georgia, Mr. Gambill serves his
local community on the board of directors of Murphy-Harpst Children's Home and
Indian Springs Camp Meeting; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Cartersville and graduate of the Cartersville City School System,
Mr. Gambill earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Lee University,
where he was active with Pi Sigma Alpha and the Political Science Honor Society;
and
WHEREAS,
he served as aide to the Higher Education and Education Committees for the
Georgia House of Representatives, where he assisted in the daily business of the
Georgia General Assembly; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Gambill is the grandson of the late Frank and Frances Harris of
Cartersville, where Mr. Frank Harris was a successful Bartow County businessman
who served for many years on the Cartersville City School Board and was
instrumental in the growth and economic development of Cartersville and Bartow
County, and his uncle, Joe Frank Harris, served as Governor of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
he is united in love and marriage to his wife, former Representative for the
Georgia House of Representatives Danae Roberts Gambill, and is the proud father
of David and Mary Harris Gambill; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Gambill has been named the 2011 New Board Member of the Year by the Boys and
Girls Clubs of Georgia, one of the highest awards a board member can receive at
the state level for work on behalf of the Boys and Girls Clubs; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Matthew Harris Gambill for his continued and dedicated
service to the citizens of the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Matthew
Harris Gambill.
