RESOLUTION
Declaring
February 18, 2009, as Pharmacy Day at the state capitol and commending the
Georgia Pharmacy Association and its members for 134 years of service to the
people of Georgia.
WHEREAS,
on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, the Georgia Pharmacy Association will be
hosting its annual Very Involved Pharmacists (VIP) Pharmacy Legislative Day at
the capitol; and
WHEREAS,
many individuals working in the field of pharmacy will be at the state capitol
on that date to meet with legislators; and
WHEREAS,
currently, there are more than 12,251 licensed pharmacists in the State of
Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
the study and practice of pharmacy is an integral part of medicine, and
pharmacists play a vital role in the health care industry, working in areas such
as community pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes, academia, the pharmaceutical
industry, managed care, and government; and
WHEREAS,
pharmacists play an essential role in patient treatment, ensuring that patients
achieve optimum benefit from their medication, educating physicians about
specific drugs and possible interactions, and protecting patients by teaching
them the proper use of their medication; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia pharmacists consistently provide outstanding care to their patients and
strive to promote health and prevent disease; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Pharmacy Association was founded 134 years ago and is the
professional association representing pharmacists in all practice
settings.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Georgia Pharmacy Association and its members for 134 years of service to patients of Georgia and recognize Wednesday, February 18, 2009, as Pharmacy Day at the state capitol.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia
Pharmacy Association for distribution among its members.
