A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the Norcross High School girls basketball team for winning their second consecutive Class AAAAA State Championship and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Norcross High School girls basketball team demonstrated a feat of greatness with a dominating 61-36 victory over McEachern High School to clinch the 2011 Class AAAAA State Championship; and

WHEREAS, this incredible team finished the season with a record of 29-3 and earned Norcross High School its second consecutive state championship title in girls basketball; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team and their superb offensive and defensive talents; and

WHEREAS, this all-star team included stellar athletes dedicated to bringing a state title home to Norcross High School: Kamilah Bakari, Patrice Butler, Sierra Butler, Tori Carter, Emaree Cobb, Shayla Cooper, Alex DeMercy, Diamond DeShields, Dearica Hamby, Sheena Hartley, Jasmine Kemp, Nia Ladson, Kolby Meeks, Deja Smith, Javonne Stanfield, and Bri Williams; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Blue Devils basketball team were challenged to succeed and led by the astute direction of Head Coach Angie Hembree and Assistant Coach Jay Nebel; and

WHEREAS, the 2011 state championship title gives Coach Hembree her fifth state title, two of which have been with Norcross High School, while she had three with Collins Hill High School; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Norcross High School girls basketball team for winning the 2011 Class AAAAA State Championship and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Angie Hembree.
