A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mrs. Hazel Ayers; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hazel Ayers has been a resident of Stone, Mountain, Georgia, since 1953, and turned 89 years of age on January 1, 2011; and

WHEREAS, she calls Stone Mountain her mountain, not only cherishing it over the years as a picnic ground for her family, but also escorting visitors from all over the world to witness its beauty and splendor; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ayers was a tireless companion and supporter of her late husband, Roy L. Ayers, Sr., who unselfishly gave 25 years of service to the Atlanta Kennel Club and, at the time of his death, was one of only eight all-breed judges for the American Kennel Association; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ayers accepted, on behalf of her late husband, the Atlanta Kennel Club's first Lifetime Achievement Award following his death in 1993; and

WHEREAS, the board of directors of the the Atlanta Kennel Club has named a scholarship in Mr. Ayers's memory; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ayers and her late husband were avid Bulldog fans, sending two children to the University of Georgia and providing a gift to the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine for the Roy Ayers Memorial Scholarship; and

WHEREAS, she continues to attend the College of Veterinary Medicine's Annual Awards dinner to meet the exceptional students who earn the Roy Ayers Scholarship; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mrs. Hazel Ayers for the support she has shown the American Kennel Club, the Atlanta Kennel Club, and the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine and recognize the love she has demonstrated as an ambassador for the greater area of Stone Mountain, her mountain.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Hazel Ayers.
