A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. G. Duke Beasley; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. G. Duke Beasley was born on January 19, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he attended Crispus Attucks High School and excelled in basketball, baseball, and track; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Beasley earned a bachelor's degree from Wilberforce University and a master's degree from Indiana University, and he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty in the armed forces; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to public service, Mr. Beasley served as the first African American Claims Deputy for the Indiana Employment Security Division, and he later moved to Ohio with his position as Deputy Regional Director with Ohio's Civil Rights Commission where he administered programs, policies, and procedures for the state in discrimination matters; and

WHEREAS, during his years in Ohio, Mr. Beasley also served as president of the East Cleveland Board of Education and was a personal consultant for East Cleveland's city manager; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Beasley's career eventually called him to Georgia where he was employed with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Atlanta, serving as Deputy Regional Director; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, a man devoted to civic duty and his community, Mr. Beasley is a member of the Urban League, the NAACP, the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, the National Association of Human Rights Workers, the Southeastern Association of Black Federal Officials, Resurgens Atlanta, the President's Club, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels; and

WHEREAS, inspired by his mother, the late Emma Ruth Beasley, and his grandfather, David Vance, Mr. Beasley is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; by the example he has made of his life, he makes this world a better place in which to live; and it is only fitting and proper that he be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. G. Duke Beasley for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. G. Duke Beasley.
