RESOLUTION
Recognizing
May 1, 2009, as Law Day in the United States of America and in the State of
Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
May 1 is Law Day in the United States of America, and the United States has been
the citadel of individual liberty and a beacon of hope and opportunity for more
than 200 years to many millions who have sought our shores; and
WHEREAS,
the foundation of individual freedom and liberty is the body of law that governs
us; and
WHEREAS,
the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights are the
heart of that body of law, which guarantees us many freedoms, including freedom
of religious belief, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of petition,
and due process of the law, among others; and
WHEREAS,
this year marks the 52nd annual nation-wide observance of Law Day, and the
Congress of the United States and the President by official proclamation have
set aside May 1 as a special day for recognition of the place of law in
American life.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body joins
together to designate May 1, 2009, as Law Day in the State of Georgia, and calls
upon all citizens, schools, businesses, clubs, and the news media to commemorate
the role of law in our lives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to members of the
public and the press.
