A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Jeannie "Sis" M. Henry; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Jeannie "Sis" M. Henry has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in the teaching profession and her deep personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Henry has dedicated more than 30 years to molding young minds and challenging students through her work in the field of education; and

WHEREAS, devoted to improving public education, Ms. Henry has served as a teacher, district administrator, expert in school finance campaigns, and nationally recognized speaker, trainer, and author on school board governance; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of schools with her service on the school board association as a communications director, board development director, and deputy director; and

WHEREAS, in 2001, Ms. Henry began her tenure as executive director of the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) and has worked tirelessly to ensure that state leaders understand the role and value of school boards in a participatory democracy; and

WHEREAS, under her leadership, the GSBA has dramatically improved its grassroots advocacy activities, increased the programs and services offered to local boards, and modeled the use of strategic planning as a method of continuous improvement of operations; and

WHEREAS, as a result of her guidance and efforts, there has been a dramatic increase in collaboration between education associations and organizations throughout this state; and

WHEREAS, in recognition for her outstanding achievements, the National School Boards Association has awarded Ms. Henry its highest honor, the 2009 Thomas A. Shannon Award of Excellence in School Board Association Leadership; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Ms. Jeannie "Sis" M. Henry for her sacrifice, foresight, accomplishments, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Jeannie "Sis" M. Henry.
