A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Effingham County High School wrestling team on winning the 2009 Class AAAA State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, through perseverance and iron determination, the Effingham County High School wrestling team earned the top ranking in the state by scoring 99.5 points, becoming the first school south of Macon to win a state traditional wrestling championship; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team and the astute direction of Head Coach Chris Hardin; and

WHEREAS, the team's triumph is incredibly impressive as the program was considered to be cut twice in the past decade due to lack of interest and budget constraints; and

WHEREAS, the two individual state championship wins of Josh Barnhill and Kevin Ulmer guaranteed the Rebels a place in the record books; and

WHEREAS, other superb performances were displayed by Bruce Smith and Desmond Washington, who each placed third in their weight classes, and Zach Gilliam, who placed fourth; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Effingham County High School wrestling team for winning the 2009 Class AAAA State Championship and extend their sincerest best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the players and coaches of the Effingham County High School wrestling team.
