RESOLUTION
Recognizing
February 3, 2011, as Veterinary Medicine Day at the state capitol and inviting
representatives from the Georgia veterinary medical community to be recognized
by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Georgia veterinarians use their scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit
of society through the protection of animal health, the relief of animal
suffering, the conservation of livestock resources, the promotion of public
health, and the advancement of medical knowledge; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia veterinarians protect the health and welfare of animals in this state
that serve as a source of companionship, nutrition, and education for the people
of this state; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association has been the voice of organized
veterinary medicine for more than 100 years; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine is appointed to protect, promote,
and preserve the public health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Georgia
through the regulation of licensed veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and
faculty veterinarians in this state; and
WHEREAS,
those working in the field of veterinary medicine demonstrate great compassion,
understanding, and kindness for the animals in their care and their dedication
and commitment to the betterment of the animal world is appreciated and
acknowledged.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend those in the veterinary medicine field for their contributions
to improve the health and welfare of animals throughout the state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Thursday, February 3, 2011, is recognized as Veterinary
Medicine Day at the state capitol and that the following distinguished members
of the Georgia veterinary medical community are invited to be recognized by the
House of Representatives at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the
House: Georgia Veterinary Medical Association President Dr. Kevin Chapman,
Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine President Dr. Henry Bohn, University
of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine's Dean Sheila Allen, Veterinary Day at
the Capitol Chair Dr. Vince Obsitnik, and Georgia Veterinary Medical Association
Executive Director Clare Reagan.
