A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Valdosta State University football team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Valdosta State University football team has been named the Gulf South
Conference's Team of the Decade for the years 2000 to 2009; and
WHEREAS,
earning 89 percent of the Team of the Decade votes, Valdosta State clearly
deserved the prestigious title after finishing among the top three teams in the
conference in each of the decade's ten seasons; and
WHEREAS,
the Blazers won conference championships in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004;
and
WHEREAS,
Valdosta State was also home to the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of
the Decade, former quarterback Dusty Bonner, who won the Harlon Hill Trophy as
Division II's top player twice; and
WHEREAS,
the Gulf South Conference Coach of the Decade went to former coach Chris
Hatcher, who led the Blazers to four conference championships and a national
title in 2004; and
WHEREAS,
the Blazers placed ten players on the Gulf South Conference All-Decade Team;
and
WHEREAS,
current Head Coach David Dean is proud of this amazing recognition for both
current and former players; and
WHEREAS,
the Blazers who have taken the field over the past decade have brought great
pride to their families, friends, classmates, and the university;
and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over the past ten years, it is abundantly
proper to call them champions of the decade.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate Valdosta State University's football team on being named
the Gulf South Conference's Team of the Decade.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach
David Dean.
