A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Will Burgess; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Will Burgess has been selected as a student delegate for the 47th annual United States Senate Youth Program in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, the program was created in 1962 to increase young Americans' understanding of the interrelationships among the three branches of government, expose them to the caliber and responsibilities of federally elected and appointed officials, and emphasize the vital importance of democratic decision making; and

WHEREAS, the extremely competitive merit based program brings together 104 of the most outstanding high school students for an intensive week-long study of the federal government; and

WHEREAS, a senior at Sequoyah High School in Cherokee, Georgia, Will was chosen by United States Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss from hundreds of applicants to be one of the two student delegates representing Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Will has demonstrated his commitment to government and politics while in school, serving as student body president, class treasurer, president and co-founder of the Young Libertarian Club, and working as a campaign intern for state level elected officials; and

WHEREAS, he is an active leader for many organizations including the Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Spanish Honor Society, Young Life Cherokee, Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program, and Cherokee Teen Leadership; and

WHEREAS, Will plans to study history, political science, or economics in college and attend law school; and
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of this bright and promising young citizen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Will Burgess on his selection as a student delegate and his many remarkable accomplishments.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Will Burgess.
