A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Colonel Wilson Freeman; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their
personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the
freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and
WHEREAS,
the United States recently lost one of its finest and most distinguished
citizens in the passing of Colonel Wilson Freeman on February 4, 2009;
and
WHEREAS,
Colonel Freeman has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the
vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to
the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Jacksonville, Florida, Colonel Freeman earned bachelors' degrees in
science and law from the University of Florida before beginning 31 years of
dedicated service to this nation in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS,
Colonel Freeman demonstrated great strength, leadership, and courage during
World War II with his service in the Field Artillery and later with the Judge
Advocate General Corps in Korea and the United States; and
WHEREAS,
upon his retirement from the military, Colonel Freeman served as Contracts
Officer for Georgia State University for 15 years and was an active member of
the Ansley Kiwanis Club and the Board of the Warren Memorial Boys Club;
and
WHEREAS,
Colonel Freeman was united in love and marriage for 66 years to his gracious and
beautiful wife, Petie; and
WHEREAS,
Colonel Freeman embodied the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in
something greater than himself and serving as a guardian of this nation's
freedom, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding
accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized
appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of
Colonel Wilson Freeman and commend his efficient, effective, unselfish, and
dedicated public service to the citizens of his state and country.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Colonel Wilson Freeman.
